Sometimes we forget that something is missing.

Living in city lights, we get used to the sky being just a faded backdrop — we might not even notice how empty it is. Yet the sight of a starry sky is one of the oldest, simplest, and most powerful experiences tied to being human.

Luckily, there are still places where the sky is alive — quite literally. The International Dark-Sky Association protects areas around the world where light pollution is minimal, allowing the night to return to true darkness.

In Hungary, there are three official Dark Sky Parks, and the Bükk Dark Sky Park is the youngest — and also the highest in elevation. At the edge of this park lies the NORTE tiny house — designed so that here, nothing will be missing.

What is a Dark Sky Park?

An official Dark Sky Park is an area where the night lights reveal the true face of the sky almost undisturbed. On a clear night, you won’t just see a few faint stars like in the city — you’ll see entire constellations, the Milky Way, meteor showers, and even 30–40 shooting stars per hour.

Stargazing at NORTE

NORTE’s mission is to offer unique experiences rarely found in Hungary. The house sits where a rocky hillside, a quiet lake, and dense forest meet — right on the edge of Hungary’s highest Dark Sky Park, where nightfall brings the sky within reach.

From the heated pool on the terrace or lying in the outdoor hammock, you can gaze up at the stars — or, if you're up for a short walk, you can reach the Abbey Garden in 10 minutes — one of the best stargazing spots in the area.

How to watch the stars properly

  • Turn off the house lights: the less surrounding light, the more stars you'll see.

  • Give your eyes time: it takes at least 20 minutes to fully adjust to the dark.

  • Avoid phone screens: even a glance at a screen can ruin your night vision.

  • Lie down — in the hammock, on the outdoor couch, or on a blanket: you'll see far more stars lying down than standing.

Dark Nature – the night’s wild side

Night isn’t just about darkness. It’s about a special kind of silence that somehow brings us closer to nature — and to ourselves.

During the day, everything moves and makes noise around us. But when night falls, the forest slows down, the landscape grows quiet, and the sky fills with things that are invisible by day. The starry sky isn’t just beautiful — it’s proven to reduce stress, enhance positive emotions, and help you switch off.

At the NORTE tiny house, the mountains call you to adventure by day, and the sky invites you to quiet reflection by night.

All you have to do is slow down — and notice how everything feels just a little simpler, and somehow, a whole lot more.
